Electrolytic nickel and chrome plating on racks

Nickel plating is used mostly as a base coating for decorative chrome, as it produces the desired gloss and corrosion protection for the base material. Surface of nickel / chrome is strong, good-looking and provides a reasonable protection for the base material. Nickel plating is used as well as finishing of the surface without chrome.

Nickel plating on racks:

Coating thickness: 5 to 25 microns
Coated surface finish: glossy
Maximum dimensions of the plated objects: 3100x1000x250
Max weight of the parts plated: 50 kg
Materials to be plated: steel, brass, copper

Chrome plating on racks:

Coating thickness: 0,2 to 0,3 microns
Coated surface finish: glossy
Maximum dimensions of the plated objects: 3100x1000x250
Max weight of the parts plated: 50 kg
Materials to be plated: steel, brass, copper
Chrome plating is used for the finishing of nickel coating

Standards:

Electroplated coatings – Electrodeposited coatings of nickel (ISO 1458)
Electrodeposited coatings of nickel plus chromium and of copper plus nickel plus chromium (1456)
Electroplated coatings of nickel for engineering purposes (ISO. 4526)

Semi gloss nickel plating (semi-bright) gives better corrosion protection in comparison to glossy nickel. Internal tensions of semi gloss nickel are small and therefore toughness and elongation properties are also good.

In the case of glossy nickel, the coating surface structure is lamella-shaped. Additives are used to achieve the best leveling capability and sharp gloss, to reduce the need for mechanical grinding and polishing. Corrosion protection is not as good as in the case of semi bright nickel plating.

Double nickel plating means a coating process, where first a nickel layer is deposited by semi bright nickel and a second layer is by full bright nickel. A layer containing sulphur is more base metallic than a sulphur-free bottom layer and it protects this cathodically. This combination ensures excellent protection against corrosion.

Added corrosion protection and adhesion is achieved by applying copper coating before nickel plating.
